Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: December 12, 2007 - The Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 (af2) announce that Moqut Ruffins has been assigned to the team for the 2008 season by the af2.
"Moqut is very versatile on the line and is one of the best players that you can add to a team because the way he can play both sides of the line," said Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "Last season, he improved every game and came into his own the final game he played in (against Rio Grande Valley)."
Originally born in Monterey, California, Moqut (mo-keet) Ruffins joined the Renegades for nine games last season after opening the season playing a game with the Laredo Lobos. Ruffins racked up ten tackles (eight solo) in the nine games with the Renegades, and also recorded a sack, three pass breakups, a pair of forced fumbles and a blocked kick. His two forced fumbles ranked tied for second on the team. Ruffins' highlight performance of the season came against Rio Grande Valley (7/21/07) as he registered a season best four tackles (three solo), two pass breakups, and came away blocking a field goal and PAT attempt.
The 6'5" 290-pound lineman spent his college career at Louisiana Tech from 2002-2005. With the Bulldogs, Ruffins combined for 79 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and three sacks. In 2005, he earned All-WAC honors with 38 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, three sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Ruffins claimed WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in October of 2005 after a 46-14 win over Hawaii in which he sacked quarterback Colt Brennan twice and also forced a fumble to help the Bulldogs defense hold Hawaii to just 280 yards (160 yards under their average heading into that contest). Louisiana Tech recruited Ruffins after a solid high school tenure at New Jersey power Middleton High School South, where he was part of two (2000,2001) Central Jersey Group 3 titles.
Ruffins is the fifth player to join the 2008 Renegades roster, joining Chad Jackson (WR/DB), Elliot Powell (DB), Ronald Redmond (OL/DL) and Corey White (DB). He is the second player returning with prior experience with the Renegades, joining Redmond. Media members looking to interview Blackshear or seeking additional information in regards to Ruffin's addition may contact Chris Due at 806-744-5858.
