Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - Sherdrick Bonner, one of the Arena Football League's most prolific quarterbacks, has re-signed with the Arizona Rattlers for another season, head coach/general manager Gene Nudo announced today.
"Sherdrick has been here as long as I have," said Nudo. "He is coming off one of his best seasons yet. We strongly believe he has what it takes to lead us to another championship."
Bonner (6-4, 240 pounds), who owns every Rattler passing record, completed one of his most productive years, throwing for a career-high 3,991 yards in 15 games. He also tossed 83 touchdowns, the second most in his storied tenure.
Honored as the eighth-greatest player on the league's "Top 20" list, Bonner ranks third in three different career passing statistical categories: passing yards (36,993), attempts (4,769) and completions (2,916). His 746 touchdown passes rank fourth on the AFL's all-time list.
On April 7, 2006, Bonner became the league's first quarterback to register his 100th win during a 64-52 victory over the Utah Blaze. His 102 regular season wins are more than any other player in the league.
In 1994, Bonner led the Rattlers to their first championship while earning ArenaBowl VII MVP honors by completing an ArenaBowl record 25 passes.
A four-year letterman at Cal State-Northridge, Bonner's professional experience also includes time with the NFL's Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers.
"After talking with Randy (Gatewood), Bo (Kelly) and Wendall (Gaines), we felt that we were so close last season," said Bonner. "It was never about wearing another jersey. I think we have the right pieces here and are on the verge of doing some great things."
Rattler season tickets for the 2007 campaign, which begins in January, are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 602-514-TDTD or online at www.azrattlers.com.
