
Sheetz Delivers with Clutch Double, Swamp Bats Beat Waves 7-5

The Keene Swamp Bats remained one game ahead of North Adams for the fourth and final playoff spot with a 7-5 victory over the Ocean State Waves on Thursday night.
Keene is now 19-21 on the season, while Ocean State drops their second straight and is now 22-18.
The game was a continuation of the one that was originally started on July 23 before the rain came and it was suspended with the score tied at one in the top of the second inning.
Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State) singled to start things off in the bottom of the seventh, with the scored tied at five. Liquori stole second, went to third on a throwing error by Waves catcher Buck McCarthy (Bryant) and scored on a go-ahead RBI double delivered by Brady Sheetz (Hartford).
Evan Ocello (Holy Cross) gave Ocean State an early 1-0 lead with a one out solo blast in the top of the first.
Keene would tie things right back up in the bottom of the first as Robbie Coman (Virginia) grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Ryan Summers (Louisville).
Ocello scored the run that would give the Waves a 2-1 lead in the third as he scored from first on an RBI double by Ryan Blanton (Georgia State).
The Swamp Bats opened up a 4-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third as Liquori delivered an RBI single with runners at the corners and one out to tie the game. Sheetz gave Keene the lead with an RBI single to bring home Coman. The next batter Darick Hall (Cochise) plated Liquori with a sac fly to center.
The lead wouldn't last long for Keene however as McCarthy belted a three-run shot to left to give Ocean State a 5-4 lead.
In a back-and-forth affair, the Swamp Bats tied it up in the home half of the fourth with an RBI single by Coman that brought home Connor Fitzsimons (Central Conn State).
Keene added an insurance run in the eighth as Ryan Summes singled to lead off, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Jarred Mederos (St. John's).
Hall was also the winning pitcher in the game for Keene, working two scoreless innings and allowing one hit with a walk and a strikeout. He is now 2-1 on the year.
Jeffrey Paglione (Monmouth) took the loss for the Waves, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
The Swamp Bats will close out the home portion of the 2014 regular season on Friday night as they host the Laconia Muskrats at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
