Shaun Meredith Named Double-A Turf Manager of the Year

Manchester, N.H. - Minor League Baseball (MiLB) has announced today that New Hampshire Fisher Cats Head Turf Manager, Shaun Meredith, has been named the 2010 Double-A Turf Manager of the Yearby the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) and MiLB. Meredith will be honored at the Annual Baseball Winter Meetings Awards Luncheon at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, FL on December 6.

"We are extremely proud to have the best playing surface in Double-A baseball, and credit goes to Shaun and his crew for their hard work day in and day out to ensure the quality of our diamond," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "Maintaining a baseball field at this level is an incredibly difficult task, one that Shaun has performed to perfection. We are very proud of the work he does and delighted that he has been recognized for it."

"It's a great honor to be recognized by Minor League Baseball," said Meredith. "This award would not have been possible without the support of my crew and the Fisher Cats staff and I'd like to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication."

Meredith, who was named the 2010 Eastern League Diamond Pro Turf Manager of the Year in August, is in his second year as the Fisher Cats' Head Turf Manager.

"The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are an outstanding organization and the Blue Jays congratulate Shaun and his entire crew for such a tremendous accomplishment," said Toronto Blue Jays Director of Minor League Operations Charlie Wilson. "The Fisher Cats continue to raise the bar of performance in Minor League Baseball, and the playing surface at Merchantsauto.com Stadium is just another example."

Meredith, a graduate of Penn State University, spent three seasons with the State College (PA) Spikes (Short-Season-A New York-Penn League) before joining New Hampshire in 2009. In 2006, State College's Medlar Field was named the NY-Penn League Field of the Year.

"The Eastern League would like to congratulate Shaun on his well deserved selection as the Double-A Turf Manager of the Year," said Eastern League President Joe McEacharn. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Shaun and his staff the Fisher Cats boast one of the top playing surfaces in all of Minor League Baseball."

Prior to working with the Spikes, Shaun was a member of the Beaver Stadium grounds crew at Penn State, handling multiple sports and complexes between 2004 and 2005. He held an internship with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the summer of 2004, working closely with the Sports Turf Manager at PNC Park.

Meredith is joined on his staff by Nate Macllelan, Jon Peterson, Nate Berube, Scott Strong and Brandon Couts.
