Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Beginning on Saturday, November 27th, the Richmond Flying Squirrels will aid 27 charitable organizations with the 2011 Season of Giving. Encompassing the holiday shopping season, the team will donate 10% of its overall merchandise sales in the Squirrels Nest Merchandise Store to an individual group each shopping day from Saturday, November 27th - Thursday, December 23rd.
The 2011 Season of Giving marks the second time the club will donate a portion of its merchandise sales to local groups. Over the course of the inaugural Season of Giving, the Flying Squirrels contributed nearly $15,000 to local charities.
"We are very grateful for the position we as a franchise are in to be able to help this community," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "We are always looking at ways to aid the largest amount of people, and the Season of Giving is unique in that it enables us to help a large and diversified group of great causes."
The Squirrels Nest Merchandise store is located at The Diamond, and will begin special holiday shopping hours around the event. The store will be open from 8 am - 8 pm on Friday, November 26th, and will be open from 9 am - 8 pm seven days a week through Friday, December 23rd.
"We saw such a tremendous response from shoppers last year even though we only had a limited selection of merchandise," said Flying Squirrels' Director of Merchandise Ben Rothrock. "We can't wait for people to discover our entire line of merchandise, much of which is new for 2011."
In addition to the Flying Squirrels Merchandise Store, holiday shoppers will also have the opportunity to purchase Christmas trees, wreaths and more at The Diamond Christmas Tree Lot. The lot will also be open from 9 am - 8 pm seven days a week, beginning on Friday, November 26th in the Flying Squirrels' Birthday Zone on the first-base side of the ballpark.
