Sharp Shooting Energy Pound Ft. Wayne 118-101

FT. WAYNE, IN, Jan 4, 2009 - The Iowa Energy knocked down ten 3-pointers and shot 56% from the field as they coasted to a 118-101 victory over the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday.

Energy guards Larry Ayuso and Patrick Sanders combined for eight 3-pointers on the night as the Energy led nearly the entire game over their Central Division rival. Ayuso finished the game with 23 points while Sanders poured in 22. Energy center Courtney Sims, who earlier in the day was named the D-League's Player of the Month was held to 13 points and 3 rebounds on the night. Reserve forward Marvin Phillips led the team with 8 rebounds.

Ft. Wayne, which featured two players recently assigned by the Detroit Pistons, took an early 4-3 lead before the Energy scored 12 of the next 14 points in the game. The Energy extended their lead to 62-46 at halftime and stretched the lead to as many as 22 in the second half.

Ft. Wayne was led by forward Taj McCullough's 25 points and 8 rebounds.

Iowa moves its league best record to 9-2 with the victory, and extends their Central Division lead to 1.0 game over the Sioux Falls SkyForce. Ft. Wayne falls to 5-8 with the loss. Both teams head to Orem, Utah for the 2009 NBA D-League Showcase which begins on Monday. The Energy face the Dakota Wizards on Tuesday at 2:45 PM Central in Utah.
