
Sharks Split Exciting Doubleheader on Road against Marlins

Morehead City, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks battled tough on a warm night in Morehead city as they split a doubleheader with the Marlins losing game one 4-3 and winning game two in eight innings 5-4.
The Marlins struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Ryan Cranmer hit his first of three home runs in the game to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Cody Dolan led off the second inning with a double and eventually scored to bring the score to 2-1.
Ryan Cranmer struck again for the Marlins in the third inning, as he hit his second home run of the game to give extend the Marlins lead to 3-1. Alex Perez in his first game with the Sharks picked up his first hit and RBI off the season to cut the Marlins lead down 3-2.
Zach Stephens hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie up the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh Ryan Cranmer did it again as he hit a walk-off home run to win game one for the Marlins 4-3.
In game two, Andrew Amaro scored in the top of the third inning to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning with two outs, Brad Haynal hit a high pop up over the pitcher's mound that dropped in for a single and scored two runs as the Marlins led 2-1.
The Marlins picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Bo Way hit a towering two run home run over the right field fence to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Sharks rallied in the top of the seventh as Perez, Amaro, and Houchins loaded up the bases on three straight walks. Dolan was hit by a pitch to score Perez and then Stephens came up with a two RBI single to tie up the game 4-4.
As we moved to extras in the eighth inning Zach Houchins came up with a single into center field to score Perez to give the Sharks a 5-4 lead. Seth Lucio was on the hill in the eighth to pick up his first win over the year and move the Sharks record to 6-5.
The Sharks will return back home on Thursday night to take on the Morehead City Marlins with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Buck Hardee Field.
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
