EDENTON, N.C - Nick Miller and Nick Thompson both homered and Edenton (9-4) scored three unearned runs in the seventh to hold on for a 6-5 victory over the Peninsula Pilots (4-7) for their fifth straight win at Historic Hicks Field on Wednesday night.

Eric Peterson (Temple University) toed the rubber for the third time as a starter for the Steamers this season. On the other side of the diamond, Josh Heddinger opposed Peterson, making his first start and first appearance overall for Peninsula.

After a scoreless first inning, Peninsula got on the board first when Scott Burkett connected for his first home run of the season, a solo shot to straightaway centerfield that gave Peninsula a 1-0 lead.

Peninsula caught the home run bug after the top of the second. In the top of the third Bradon Reitano and Josh Silver went back-to back off Peterson and Peninsula had a 3-0 lead.

Edenton had only one hit through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth Nick Miller (University of Northern Colorado) hit his second home run of the season to make it a 3-1 Pilot lead. Three batters later, after a Dominic Fratantuono (Towson University) walk, Nick Thompson (East Carolina University) spanked a line drive home run over the center field wall for a two-run, game tying long ball and we were knotted at three.

Peninsula took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth when Patrick Grady was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored on an error charged to the shortstop Alex Delgado (Emmanuel College).

Heddinger pitched four and one-third innings, allowing four hits, three runs; he walked three and struck out five but did not factor in the decision.

Jared Lyons entered in relief of Blair Betts, who pitched a perfect two-thirds of an inning. Lyons, in the bottom of the seventh, fell apart. Edenton scored three times on three singles, two errors, two wild pitches and a passed ball to take a 6-4 lead.

Peninsula mounted a late rally in the top of the eighth against three Steamer pitchers. Beau Beaudreau (Flagler College) opened the frame, hitting a batter and inducing a pop-up to first base. He was replaced by Michael Drye, (Winston-Salem State University) who faced two batters and walked both of them. Jake McCoy (College of the Desert) then entered the ball game and threw a wild pitch to score Taylor Ostrich, who Beaudreau had hit to begin the inning. The run made it 6-5 Steamers.

McCoy faced four batters in the ninth and closed out the 6-5 win for Edenton, earning his first save of the season.

Jeremy Bales (Lee University), who pitched a perfect two innings in relief of Peterson, earned his first win of the season.

Jared Lyons took the loss for the three unearned runs he allowed in the bottom of the seventh inning, he fell to 0-1.

Edenton travels to Wilson to take on the 8-4 Tobs in another East Division match-up. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m from Historic Fleming Stadium.
