Sharks Drop Final Exhibition Game 5-2 to Wolf Pack

Worcester Sharks News Release


CROMWELL, CT - The Worcester Sharks fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-2 at the Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, Connecticut on Sunday afternoon in their third and final preseason game.

Alex Stalock played the entire game for Worcester in his final tune up making 18 saves as the Sharks received goals by Dan DaSilva and Justin Braun. Dane Byers recorded a hat trick for Hartford and Chad Johnson made 29 saves in the complete game victory.

Hartford struck first early in the first period after a turnover in front of the Sharks net. Evgeny Grachev snapped the puck off the crossbar and past Alex Stalock for an unassisted tally at 1:13. The Sharks struck right back on the power play after some nice work along the boards behind the Wolf Pack net. Dan DaSilva (1st) picked up his own rebound in the crease and snuck it past Chad Johnson to even the score at 1-1. James Marcou and Brandon Mashinter were credited with power play assists. The score was tied 1-1 after twenty minutes of play.

Dane Byers scored twice in the 2nd period, the 2nd to give the Wolf Pack a 3-2 lead with 60 seconds remaining in the period. Justin Braun (1st) tied the score at 2-2, with a beautiful one-timer shot from on top of the left circle after a feed from Steven Zalewski. Hartford led 3-2 after 40 minute of play.

Dane Byers completed his three goal night after a Hartford power play expired at 1:18 of the third period to give the Wolf Pack a 4-2 lead. The Wolf Pack added an empty netter at 18:27 to give Hartford the three goal victory.

Worcester's preseason record finishes up at 1-2-0-0.

Notes: Three Stars: no official announcement of three stars... Final shots were 31-23 in favor of the Sharks. Chad Johnson made 29 saves on 31 shots for Hartford.... Alex Stalock made 18 saves on 22 shots for Worcester... Jay Leach, Andrew Desjardins, and Nick Petrecki each wore the Assistant Captain "A". Sean Sullivan, Doug Rogers, Steve McClellan, Jody Pederson, and Cam MacIntyre did not dress for the Sharks. Worcester dressed 16 players (5 rookies) that saw time with the Sharks last season

The Sharks kick-off their fifth regular season in Bridgeport on Saturday in an Atlantic Division matchup vs. the Sound Tigers.
