Sharks Come from 4 Down, Walk off on Wilson

Wilmington, NC-Just one night removed from an incredible finish, Sharks fans witnessed another amazing game Friday night at Buck Hardee Field, as the Wilmington Sharks (16-10) came back from a 4-0 deficient to walk off in the ninth inning over the Wilson Tobs (14-12) by a score of 5-4.
It was all Tobs for much of the game, as they scored two runs in the second and two more in the fourth, leading 4-0 after seven and a half innings. Wilmington had just four hits in their first seven innings, but they weren't about to go down easy. In the eighth, the first two Sharks recorded outs, leaving them with no one on base and two outs. Clark Scolamiero (South Carolina) started the rally with a single. Nick Rotola (Oral Roberts) followed that with another single, bringing up Madison Stokes (South Carolina). Stokes singled to right and brought home Scolamiero, the throw went high though and Rotola moved up to third while Stokes advanced to second. Alec Bohm (Wichita State) came up to pinch hit, and made a big impact with a 2 RBI single to left.
Trailing just 4-3, the Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) pinch ran for Bohm since he represented the Sharks' tying run. After a hit batter moved runners to first and second, Haynes Nelson (Longwood) grounded easily back to the pitcher. The throw from the pitcher went wild though and Nelson reached while Avery came around to score and tie the game at four.
In the ninth, Chris Graham (UNC Greensboro) got things started with a one out single. On a hit an run play, Brett Smith's (Bucknell) single allowed Graham to reach third. After Scolamiero was intentionally walked, Nick Rotola had a chance to be a hero. It wasn't pretty, but a ground ball to shortstop did the trick as Rotola beat out the fielder's choice to avoid the double play and win the game.
The win went to Cody Tyler (3-0). He threw one inning, with one hit, no runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Sean Byrnes (1-1) took the loss, pitching two thirds of an inning, allowing one run, on one hit.
The Sharks hit the road for the holiday weekend, starting with a trip to Morehead City.
