Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - The Jacksonville Sharks (9-4) clinched a playoff berth in its inaugural season. The Sharks clinched after a 67-56 victory July 9th in Utah against the Blaze.

The Sharks are currently in second place in the South Division behind the Tampa Bay Storm. The Storm (10-3) also clinched last week with a win in Dallas over the Vigilantes. The Sharks defeated the Storm May 7 in Tampa 46-43. The Storm have not lost a game since, winners of eight games in row.

The Sharks and Storm face off this weekend in Jacksonville for a game that will determine the South Division Champion. A Sharks win will put them back atop the standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season. A loss doesn't rule the Sharks out of the top seed in the American Conference. The Sharks would need some help from division foes Alabama and Orlando to knock off the Storm - both being home games for Tampa Bay.

"When we started the season we had one goal, period," stated Sharks Head Coach, Les Moss. "Making the playoffs is the first step to achieving that goal. Don't get me wrong, it's great to be in the playoffs but we are in this to win the last game."

Moss is no stranger to the post season. The Sharks clinching a playoff berth this season continues Moss' impressive streak. Moss coached teams have entered the post season 21 times - 19 of which are consecutive seasons. Moss has reached the ArenaBowl or championship game ten times, winning three ArenaBowls ('90, '98, '00).

The Jacksonville Sharks are members of the Arena Football League (AFL). All home games will be played at Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The Sharks take on the South Division rival Tampa Bay Storm at Sea Best Field Saturday, July 17th at 7:05pm. Catch all the action live on WCWJ, CW-17. Single game tickets start at $8 per game and are available at Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster outlets, and the arena box office.
