Sharks Attack Yard Dawgz – Take First Win

April 3, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - In the first game in franchise history, the Jacksonville Sharks defeated the Yard Dawgz in Oklahoma City Saturday night 54-38.

The Sharks looked like an expansion team in the early going, trailing the Dawgz 6-7 at the close of the first quarter. Sharks fans watching on AFL Live, the free web broadcast of the game, got a scare on the second drive when quarterback Aaron Garcia left the game shaken up and kicker Paul Edinger went 0-2 for kicks.

Whatever head coach Les Moss said at half time - along with adjustments made on the playing field - definitely made an impact. The Sharks looked like a different team in the second half. With Garcia back at the helm, the Sharks marched up and down the field with precision. The defense held the Yard Dawgz in check, too. Three consecutive plays resulted in three sacks for the Sharks defensive line. Special teams also added two touchdowns - one being an onside return by Juron Harvey.

The win marks the first for the expansion Sharks. Though the team heads back to the Sunshine State with an unblemished record, the team has many polishing points to work on before heading to Alabama for the April 9th contest.

The Jacksonville Sharks are members of the Arena Football League (AFL). All home games will be played at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The home season kicks off April 16th as the Sharks take on the Orlando Predators. Season tickets for the inaugural season of the Jacksonville Sharks are now available for as low as $45.
