Sharks Acquire "Linebacker U" Graduate

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - The Jacksonville Sharks announce linebacker Tyrell Sales has been added to the roster for the upcoming 2011 season.

Sales (6'2, 247, Penn State) joins the Sharks after spending time with the Montreal Allouttes (CFL) in 2010. Sales was signed as an undrafted free-agent by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009 and had private workouts with the Seattle Seahawks.

Sales, a four-year letterman and two-year starter at Penn State University - also known as "Linebacker University" for consistently producing top-caliber professional talent at linebacker - started 28 of his 51 games played. He finished his career for Joe Paterno with 154 tackles (82 solo), 10 tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception. Sales was also named Academic All Big Ten in both 2005 and 2006.

Sales earned multiple all-county, All-Western Pennsylvania district and all-conference awards for Coach Garry Cathell at Butler Area HS. A three-year starter, as a senior he made 98 tackles, with 14 tackles for loss, four sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and returned two interceptions for touchdowns. During his career, he made 265 tackles and had 20 sacks and five interceptions. He was named to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 25, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab 22 and the Harrisburg Patriot-News Platinum 33. Sales was team captain, won the YMCA Scholar-Athlete Award and played in the 2004 Big 33 Classic. Sales also starred in track and basketball. He placed third in Pennsylvania in the discus and was an all-section pick on the basketball court, where he scored more than 1,200 points during his career.
