Seven Wins in a Row for Bravehearts

Worcester Bravehearts News Release

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts (11-3) might need a bigger boat to head back home after they tack on another victory, extending their winning streak to seven games, a new franchise record. Their latest victim: the Martha's Vineyard Sharks' pitching staff, as the Bravehearts offense came alive to shutout the Sharks 11-0 at Vineyard Baseball Park in Martha's Vineyard, MA.

After back-to-back one-run games at home, the Bravehearts hit the road (and the waves) to face the rival Sharks on Saturday night. Worcester, once again, got another stellar pitching performance from their starter, this time being Mike Bruemmel (Wheaton/Bridgewater, MA). Bruemmel was very effective, going seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out four Sharks' batters. He goes home with the victory, giving him a 2-1 record so far this summer.

The Bravehearts got their offense going early when in the top of the second inning, John Friday (Franklin Pierce/Marlborough, MA) blasted a no-doubter homerun to give the visitors the lead, 1-0.

Sharks starter John Nolan (Siena/Windsor, CT) took the loss, his second of the season, as he went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, off seven hits. He also walked two and struck out two batters, as the Sharks fall to 5-10 on the summer, having now lost five straight games.

In the top of the fifth inning, Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA) drove two more runs in on a single, extending the lead to 3-0 for Worcester. They would add four more runs before Matt Diesel (Felecian/Massapequa, N.Y.) crushed a grand slam homerun in the eighth to blow the doors completely off, making the score 11-0, which would hold for the final.

Bravehearts centerfielder Chad Miller (Saint Leo/Sarasota, FL) went 4-5 with a run scores and a run batted in. Worcester's Danny Barlock (Holy Cross/Shrewsbury, MA) closed out the last two innings of scoreless baseball, striking out three batters.

The Worcester Bravehearts next home game is on Sunday, June 19th as they play host to the Seacoast Mavericks at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester. Tickets for this game, and all future Bravehearts games, are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
