DiBendetto Shines as Rox Drop a Pair

June 18, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release

The Rox entered today with the potential of going 2 games above .500 as they faced the North Shore Navigators in a double-header. The Navigators came into Campanelli Stadium with a 1-12 record, and the Rox looked primed attack the leagues worst team. However, the Rox lost both games against the Navs on Saturday and fell to 7-9 on the season.

In game 2, the Navigators offense picked up right where they left off in game 1 by scoring two runs in the 1st inning with a two RBI single by Mike Dacunti. After facing 8 batters in the first inning, Rox starting pitcher Bryce Tucker was pulled from the game.

While the Navs offense picked up right where they left off in game 1, so did the Rox, unfortunately. Accumulating 9 hits, the offense seemed poised to score runs, but could only accumulate 1 run. Their one run came in the 7th inning when Jake Marotta drove in Trent Turner, but the Navs already stretched the lead to 7-0.

The Navs would put up another run in the 8th and eventually walk away with an 8-1 victory.

The star of the game was Nick DiBendetto. Brockton's pitching had no answer for their star third basemen. He went 5-5 with 4 RBI's, leading their offense. In the two games he went a combined 7-10 with 5 RBI's.

After a 5-3 start to the season, which included a 5 game win streak, the Rox have now lost 6 out of their last 8 games and it seems as though their offense has dwindled.

The Rox (7-9) look to get back to their winning ways as they take on the Bristol Blues (9-6) tomorrow evening. The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium Tuesday night to welcome the Nashua Solver Knights. First pitch is at 7:05. Come enjoy $2.00 Pearl hot dogs!
