Seven-Run Third Propels D-Jays in Rout of Clearwater

Clearwater, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays broke open the game early with a seven-run third inning and routed the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday afternoon at Bright House Field, 10-2.

Dickie Joe Thon put an exclamation point on the decisive inning with a two-out two-run home run, his second of the season with Dunedin. L.B. Dantzler started the scoring with a bases-loaded two-run single. Mitch Nay also delivered an RBI double.

After Clearwater picked up a single tally in the fifth, the D-Jays added on with three more in the sixth. Derrick Loveless pounded a two-run double to the wall in right and Matt Dean drove in a run with a single, his team-leading 50th RBI of the season. Loveless now has 10 runs batted in over his last 17 games.

Shane Dawson (2-1) tossed six strong innings to pick up his second straight win. The 21-year-old lefty gave up just one run on five hits and struck out five. Griffin Murphy followed with a pair of perfect innings out of the Dunedin bullpen, striking out two.

Anthony Alford had a three-hit day out of the leadoff spot with a single and two doubles. He also scored two runs. Mike Reeves singled, walked, and scored a pair of runs himself.

The series shifts back to Dunedin and Florida Auto Exchange Stadium for the final three games, beginning tomorrow night. Right-hander Conor Fisk will take the hill for the D-Jays. First pitch is set for 6:30 ET and the action can be heard on DunedinBlueJays.com.
