Seven-Run Second Inning Sinks Canadians
July 24, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
The Eugene Emeralds came out swinging on Saturday night as an enormous seven-run, second inning would be too much for the Canadians to overcome in front of a sold out crowd, as Vancouver dropped a fourth consecutive game, 11-4.
After grabbing the first two runs of the game in the top of the 1st inning, Eugene C Tyler Payne accentuated a seven-run assault on Canadians in the 2nd inning on RHP Dalton Rodriguez as his first home run of the season chased the Mexicali, Mexico native, sending him to 2-4 on the season.
The Vancouver Canadians looked like they might have been gaining some traction with a pair of runs in the 5th and 7th innings but the Ems were quick to answer back with a run of their own in each of the following frames. When the dust settled, Eugene has sent the Canadians to a fourth straight loss, falling out of the first half pennant race in the process.
With the loss the Canadians drop to 16-20 on the season, while the Emeralds improve to a NWL best 26-10 with the victory, and third straight against Vancouver in this five-game series that resumes on Sunday at 1:05pm. Vancouver RHP Patrick Murphy to the mound to face the Eugene Emeralds as part of an A&W Family Fun Sunday.
