Frederick Keys News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat the Frederick Keys 9-5 on Saturday night at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium. It was the Keys 14th loss in their last 17 games.

Trailing 2-0 after three innings, the Keys (41-52, 6-18) cut Potomac's lead in half thanks to an RBI single from Preston Palmeiro which scored Wilson Garcia from second. From there, the Nationals (45-45, 8-15) sent 11 men to bat plating seven runs on six hits in the home fourth.

Travis Seabrooke retired the first batter of the inning, but the next seven reached. Following a walk and a single, Jack Sundberg bunted down the third base line. Seabrooke threw to first but it went past Collin Woody and down the rightfield line allowing David Masters and Jakson Reetz to score. Sundberg took third on the play and scored one batter later on an RBI single from Bryan Mejia. The latter then took second after an error by Randolph Gassaway in leftfield.

Rhett Wiseman followed with a two-run home run to right-center while Nick Banks eventually capped off the inning with a two-run double to make it 9-1.

Frederick scored the final four runs of the game, tallying two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. T.J. Nichting doubled to begin the sixth off Ben Braymer, advanced to third on a single and scored on a Palmeiro sac-fly. Later in the inning, Jomar Reyes hit a double to score Gassaway. One inning later, Nichting hit a two-run homer off MLB rehabber Koda Glover. It was the first Carolina League home run for the former UNC-Charlotte product.

In the eighth, the Keys put the tying run in the on-deck circle after a triple by Woody and a walk, but Steven Fuentes picked up the final four outs to end the game.

Braymer (4-3) earned the win tossing six innings of three-run baseball. He struck out five and allowed nine hits. Matthias Dietz (0-2) suffered the loss. The right-hander allowed two runs on three walks in two innings. Fuentes tossed the final 1.1 innings to record his first save.
