Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers erased a four-run deficit with a seven-run eighth to come back and beat the Helena Brewers 7-4 Friday night at Centene Stadium. The win is the third last at-bat win for Great Falls this season, and their seventh in a row over Helena.
Trailing 4-0 entering the eighth and having just four hits, the Voyagers (3-1, 20-20) offense woke up, and got some help from Helena (1-3, 17-23) as well. With two on and one out, Jake Jarvis plated the first run of the rally, driving in his 20th of the year. One wild pitch later from Junior Rincon (2-4), Great Falls was within two. Antonio Rodriguez then brought in another with a double, putting the tying run in scoring position.
The Brewers then helped Great Falls out, making errors on consecutive plays to allow Rodriguez to score the tying run, then Zach Fish to score the go-ahead run. Nick Parent then capped the inning with a two-run shot, his third of the year.
After a scoreless eighth, Ryan Hinchley (1-2) came out for the ninth and put up another zero to earn his first professional win. The lefty struck out three in his two innings of work, a career-high.
Pitching dominated early on, as the game remained scoreless until the sixth. In that frame, Mike Gomez surrender a pair of two-out two-run homers to Troy Stokes and Jose Cuas to put the visitors in front 4-0.
Until their seven-run eighth, Great Falls bats had been kept quiet by Helena starter Jordan Yamamoto, who turned in his best outing of 2015. The righty fired seven scoreless for the Brewers, scattering four hits and walking just one while striking out four.
The win for Great Falls is their second come-from-behind win in the seventh inning or later of a ballgame, and is their seventh consecutive victory against Helena.
The Voyagers continue their four-game series with the Helena Brewers Saturday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will send right-hander Brannon Easterling (3-1, 3.92) to the hill, while Helena will counter with fellow righty Alex Farina (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
