Dayton Dragons News Release

Midland, Mich. - Great Lakes outfielder Romer Cuadrado belted a grand slam home run as part of a seven-run fourth inning as the Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons 9-3 on Saturday night. The game was the first of a four-game series and the 10th contest on the Dragons 13-game road trip. Their record on the trip fell to 2-8.

Great Lakes scored two runs in the first inning and they continued to lead 2-0 going to the bottom of the fourth. The first seven batters in the inning reached base and scored before the first out was recorded to make it 9-0.

Dayton scored two runs in the fifth on a triple by Jose Garcia to bring in Mark Kolozsvary and J.D. Williams, who had each singled to start the inning. The Dragons added another run in the eighth when Williams drove in Alejo Lopez from second base with a single to close out the scoring.

Lopez had one hit in four at-bats, an eighth inning single, to extend his hitting streak to 14 straight games. Only 10 players in Dragons history have enjoyed 15-game hitting streaks, and Lopez will try to match that on Sunday.

Dragons starting pitcher Jared Solomon (0-1) suffered the loss. Solomon struggled with his command, walking four batters over two and one-third innings. He was charged with two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Wendolyn Bautista replaced Solomon with two men on base and one out in the third inning and worked out of trouble, stranding both runners. But Bautista allowed the first six batters to reach in the fourth and was replaced by Cory Thompson, who surrendered the grand slam home run to Cuadrado. Bautista was charged with six earned runs in his two-thirds of an inning, and Thompson worked three innings, allowing one run. Ryan Nutof and Aneurys Zabala each tossed a scoreless inning for Dayton.

The Dragons finished with 12 hits. Garcia, Williams, Andy Sugilio, and Leandro Santana each had two. Jonathan India had a double in four at-bats.

In the Standings: The Dragons fell to 20-28 in the second half. They remained one and one-half games behind Fort Wayne in the race for the final playoff spot in the Midwest League's East Division Second Half race. There are 22 games to play.
