Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - The Snappers drew a season-high attendance of 3,012 on Saturday night, and rewarded those fans with a 7-3 victory to open their four-game set with Wisconsin. Athletics No. 5 prospect Austin Beck drove in two runs while Hunter Hargrove plated three, backing the solid combined effort of Beloit hurlers Brady Feigl, Ivan Andueza and Nick Highberger.
In his second start with the Snappers, Feigl (0-1, 4.50 ERA), Oakland's fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft, shutout the Timber Rattlers over his scheduled two innings. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two.
After exchanging zeros with Beloit through the first two innings, Wisconsin starter Nelson Hernandez (10-8, 4.93 ERA) faltered in the third as the Snappers put up a five spot in the frame.
Mickey McDonald led off the inning with a single, and then Skyler Weber reached on a fielder's choice in which no out was recorded by Timber Rattlers second baseman Eddie Silva. Jesus Lage followed with an RBI single, putting the Snappers up 1-0.
Athletics No. 17 prospect Nick Allen extended the lead with a sacrifice fly before Beck's RBI double. Hargrove capped the five-run frame with a two-run single and brought the score to 5-0.
Beck and Hargrove's back-to-back run scoring hits in the fifth ended Hernandez's day after 4.1 innings. The Snappers rocked him for seven runs on 10 hits. Hernandez walked two and did not strike out a batter.
The Timber Rattlers made the game interesting in the seventh against Andueza, working in his fifth inning of relief for Beloit. Errors from outfielders Beck and Logan Farrar led to a strange three-run single from Brent Diaz. Andueza escaped further damage thanks to a dazzling play by the shortstop Allen, who robbed Darren Seferina of a potential RBI knock. After Andueza gave up three runs (two earned) in his long relief outing, Highberger threw two shutout innings to finish Wisconsin.
The Snappers racked up 11 hits on the night, with every member of the starting lineup recording at least one. Beck and Hargrove led the way with 2-for-3 performances. Kenny Corey (2-for-3) had the only multi-hit night for the Timber Rattlers.
It was Beck's 31st multi-hit game of the season, leading the team.
Beloit's attendance of 3,012 on Saturday night is the largest Pohlman Field has seen since July 24, 2016, when the Snappers hosted a sellout of 3,501 versus the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
The Snappers continue their four-game set with Wisconsin tomorrow at 2 p.m. Beloit right-hander Mitchell Jordan (5-2, 2.39 ERA), who ranks second in ERA among qualifying Midwest League starters, will match up against the Timber Rattlers Dylan File (7-9, 4.14 ERA).
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
