
Seven Rangers' Prospects Selected in 2022 NHL Draft

Montréal, Que. - Seven players with ties to the Kitchener Rangers were selected in the 2022 NHL Draft that took place this Thursday and Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
The Rangers had two prospects selected in the first round of the NHL Draft. Cutter Gauthier, a Rangers' fourth-round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the fifth-overall pick and Filip Mešár, a Rangers' first-round pick in the 2021 CHL Import Draft, was selected by the Montréal Canadiens 26th overall.

In the second round, Mattias Hävelid, a second-round selection by the Rangers in the 2022 CHL Import Draft, was tabbed by the San Jose Sharks 45th overall.
The Rangers had three prospects taken in the third round. Devin Kaplan, Kitchener's 12th-round selection in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, was picked by Philadelphia 69th overall. George Fegaras, a fourth-round pick by the Rangers in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, was tabbed 83rd-overall by the Dallas Stars. Four picks later, Tomáš Hamara, Kitchener's first-round selection in the most recent 2022 CHL Import Draft, was selected by the Ottawa Senators.
Owen Mehlenbacher, a Rangers 13th-round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, was tabbed by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round.

Since 1969, the Kitchener Rangers have had 165 players selected in the NHL Draft, which is the fourth-most of any OHL club. The highest two selections were Gabriel Landeskog (2011) and Brian Bellows (1982), who were both selected second overall. The most Rangers selected in a draft was five in 1998. Impressively, 21 Rangers have been selected in the NHL Draft by 14 different NHL clubs in just the past 11 years.
At last year's NHL Draft, current Rangers' forward Francesco Pinelli was selected in the second round (42nd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2021 NHL Draft and Rangers defenseman Roman Schmidt was selected in the third round (96th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
