Seven Loons Called to National Team Duty

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United announced today that seven members of the first team have been called up to national team duty ahead of the 2021 MLS season.

Midfielder Hassani Dotson and defender Callum Montgomery have been competing in the Olympic Qualifiers with the U.S Under-23 Men's National Team and Canada Under-23 Men's National Team, respectively. Dotson and the U.S. are 2-0 in the qualifiers and face Mexico on Wednesday, March 24 at 8:30 p.m. CT to close out the group stage. With their win against the Dominican Republic, the U.S. is already set to advance to the Group A Semifinal Sunday, March 28. Montgomery and Canada are undefeated and will close out the Group B stage Thursday, March 25 against Honduras at 9:00 p.m. CT.

Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair will join the Canada Men's National Team for the first round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. This is St. Clair's first call up to the Canadian senior team. Canada will face Bermuda on Thursday, March 25 and the Cayman Islands on Sunday, March 28.

In Europe, Slovakia and Finland begin their 2022 World Cup qualifying journeys, having both already qualified for UEFA Euro 2020. Jan Gregus and Slovakia will face Cyprus, Malta and Russia in the first three games of the group stage on March 24, March 27 and March 30. Robin Lod and Jukka Raitala will join Finland, whose first three games of the group stage will be against Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 24, Ukraine on March 28 and Switzerland on March 31.

Defender Romain Metanire heads to Africa with the Madagascar National Team to continue their journey in the African Cup of Nations qualifying tournament. Madagascar will face Ethiopia on March 24 and Niger on March 30.
