Portland Winterhawks News Release
The National Hockey League's Central Scouting released its midterm rankings today for the 2013 NHL Draft, with Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones coming in at #1 among North American skaters.
Joining Jones on the rankings are forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand at #29 and Nic Petan at #34, with Brendan Burke coming in at #13 among North American goalies. Jones, Bjorkstrand and Petan are all currently in Halifax, Nova Scotia to take part in the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game Wednesday.
"To come in at #1 in the midterm rankings is a significant accomplishment. Seth's having a tremendous season, and we still feel his best is ahead of him," said Winterhawks Acting Head Coach Travis Green. "We're also very excited for Oliver, Nic and Brendan to be recognized by Central Scouting. It's every player's dream to be drafted, and this is an early step for each of them in that direction."
Jones has 28 points in 33 games this season, first among all rookie defensemen in the league. He also won a gold medal at the recent World Junior Championship, where he was second among all defensemen in the tournament with seven points.
Bjorkstrand leads all WHL rookies with 35 points this season. A first round pick in the 2012 CHL Import Draft, Bjorkstrand played professionally in his native Denmark last season before joining the Winterhawks.
In his second year, Petan leads all players across the CHL with 74 points this season. He's more than doubled his output from last season, when he had 35 points in 61 games.
Also in his second year, Burke is 14-3-1-0 in net this season. He's posted two shutouts, with a 2.71 goals against average and save percentage of 90.3%.
Season tickets and 20-, 12- and 6-game ticket packages for the 2012-13 season are on sale now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
