Omaha Lancers News Release
Omaha, NE - Adam Wilcox registered 29 saves and the Green Bay Gamblers scored three unanswered goals in the second period blanking the Omaha Lancers 3-0 Friday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The loss snapped Omaha's season-high six-game home winning streak and was the Lancers first setback in regulation time over the last 11 games. Following the defeat, Omaha saw its overall record on the season dip to 25-11-5.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening period of play despite a combined 14 shots on goal. Omaha goaltender John Keeney turned aside all seven Gamblers shots he saw in period one while Green Bay netminder Adam Wilcox answered the seven Lancers shots he faced.
Green Bay broke the scoreless deadlock 3:48 into the second period when a right wing shot produced a rebound in the slot, which was promptly cleaned up Nikita Sirotkin for his fourth goal of the season. Nolan LaPorte earned the only assist on the five-on-five tally, which marked the 21st time in 43 games this season that the Gamblers have grabbed the game's first goal. Omaha nearly evened the game twice when, while on the power play, the Lancers saw shots from Nick Oddo and Matt Tabrum both graze off the goal post. Green Bay then used a power play of its own to double the lead when Ludwig Karlsson pounced on a loose puck at the side of the Omaha goal in sending in his 11th goal of the season. Robert Francis and Alex Broadhurst assisted on the man advantage tally, which was the first five-on-four power play goal against the Lancers in the last 19 games. The Gamblers added an extra insurance marker in the final minute of the period when a cross-crease pass from Travis Lynch found Francis at the left post for his 10th goal of the year. The even strength tally came 19:19 into the middle stanza.
Omaha remained resilient in its pursuit in the third period but was unable to solve Wilcox who posted his first career USHL shutout after 29 saves on 29 Lancers shots. With the win, Wilcox stretched his personal winning streak to four straight games and improved his overall record to 14-4-1 on the year. Meanwhile, Keeney suffered his first regulation loss over the last eight starts after 25 saves on 28 Gamblers shots. The second-year native of Twin Peaks, California is now 14-5-2 on the season.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they welcome the Lincoln Stars to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for the final time this season. Puck drops 7:05 PM.
