GBL Spalding Player of the Week Awards go to Reno OF and Orange County Pitcher

(Dublin, CA. July 2, 2007) The Golden Baseball League announced OF Juan Senreiso of the Reno Silver Sox and LHP Ben Fox of the Orange County Flyers have been named Player and Pitcher of Week Six. Sponsored by Spalding Baseball, these weekly awards recognize the most outstanding position player and pitcher in the league each week.

Juan Senreiso, 25, the Reno Silver Sox outfielder, was selected as Player of the Week. Senreiso was acquired from the Laredo Broncos of the United League in late June and has been an offensive force ever since joining the team. He takes this week?s honors as the GBL?s top position player as he batted at a .519 clip and led the league in hits with 14, in RBIs with 9, and stolen bases with 5 while having the second most runs scored with 8. Originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an 18 year-old he spent seven seasons in the Rangers? and Royals? farm systems, advancing three times to Double-A before being released last season

Ben Fox, 26, the left-handed starting pitcher and pitching coach for the Orange County Flyers, has been selected as Pitcher of the Week. Fox was the ace of the Flyers staff in 2005 and fulfilled the same role for the Lincoln Salt Dogs of the Northern League last year. Deciding to hang up the cleats after last season and then coming out of retirement just two weeks ago, he posted a record of 2-0 with a 1.13 E.R.A. as he pitched 16 innings in two starts while leading the league in strikeouts with 19 and only walking 3 last week. His two wins included a complete game with 10 strikeouts over the powerful Long Beach Armada followed up by seven innings of one-hit pitching as he defeated the St. George Roadrunners five days later. Originally drafted in the 10th round by the San Diego Padres, he was used as a reliever the first three years of his pro career before the Flyers moved him into the starting rotation in 2005 and he has gone 24-7 ever since.

The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway Inc./VONS, is a professional baseball league operating in the western U.S. Golden Baseball League teams include the Chico Outlaws in Chico; CA, the Orange County Flyers in Fullerton; CA, the Long Beach Armada in Long Beach; CA, the St. George Roadrunners in St. George, UT; the Yuma Scorpions in Yuma, AZ; and the Reno Silver Sox in Reno, NV. The season runs from early June to the end of August. Over 50 GBL players have had their contract purchased by Major League organizations in the last two years.
