Patriots Radio Broadcaster Brian Bender Resigns
The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that radio broadcaster Brian Bender has resigned from his position with the team. Bender was the "Voice of the Somerset Patriots" for the past six seasons on WCTC 1450 AM, calling all 140 games at home and on the road. "It was by far the toughest decision of my life because I left a lot of close friends and dedicated listeners," Bender said. "One of the things I always enjoyed was that, in an area dominated by so many good sports teams, we had so many people tuning in." He has decided to resign his position to spend more time with his wife and young son, who he is apart from throughout the season. "We understand that the time away from his family was very tough on Brian. He loved the job, but it was difficult to spend six months across the country from his wife and son, which was not the case when he started with us and lived year-round in New Jersey. We want to thank Brian for six years of great radio and devotion to our team. We wish Brian, Mindy, and Casey all the best," said Patrick McVerry, President and General Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club. Prior to joining the Patriots, Bender served as the play-by-play and color commentator for the Newark Bears. He called two Atlantic League All-Star Games and six Atlantic League Championship Series. The Somerset Patriots are looking for a Radio Broadcaster for the 2010 season. All 140 games will air on WCTC 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Somerset Patriots Baseball. The team is looking for qualified individuals that have on-air radio experience in sports broadcasting.
