April 27, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators had their chances, but couldn't cash in as the offense struggled again in a 4-2 loss to the Akron Aeros. The Senators, who had exploded for 27 runs in the first two games of the series, scored just three runs over the last two matchups.
Harrisburg pounded out nine base hits, but left nine runners on base.
Akron scored in the first inning. Josh Rodriguez singled and went to third when the ball was misplayed. Michael Aubrey followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Akron.
In the third, Brandon Chaves singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Rodriguez's RBI double down the right-field line which extended the lead to 2-0.
Akron plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning, the second scoring on an error after a flyout by Wes Hodges. At that point, it was 4-0 Aeros.
Harrisburg left runners on base in each of the first four innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the fourth. In the fifth, Mike Daniel blasted a solo home run over the bleachers in right for his first round-tripper of the year. That cut the deficit to 4-1.
In the eighth inning, Justin Maxwell walked to start the inning and came all the way around to score when Luke Montz rolled a grounder to third. The throw was errant and Maxwell scored to cut it to 4-2. Harrisburg couldn't score after that as Akron closer Randy Newsom worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the year.
Frank Herrmann (3-1) picked up the win as he scattered eight hits and a run over six innings. Josh Hall fell to 1-3 for the Senators
Harrisburg is 14-9 and the Aeros improved to 9-13. The Senators have a day off on Monday before traveling to Altoona to face the Curve in a three-game series at Blair County Ballpark.
