Semien, Black Named Southern League Post-Season All-Stars

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons and the Southern League have announced that Marcus Semien and Dan Black have been named to the Southern League Post-Season All-Star team.

Semien, 22, was promoted to Class AAA Charlotte on August 1st. At the time of his promotion, he ranked among the league-leaders in multiple categories including runs, walks (84) total bases (190) and on-base percentage (.420) while ranking tied for first in hits and sixth in batting average. In 105 games with the Barons this season, Semien hit .290 (114-for-393) with a team-best 15 home runs, 90 runs scored and 49 RBI.

Semien, a 2013 Southern League All-Star, was drafted by the White Sox in the sixth round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California-Berkley. He entered the 2013 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 14 Prospect in the White Sox Organization and in a recent re-ranking of the top prospects in the organization by MLB.com was ranked as their No. 9 prospect in the organization.

Black, 26, has been the team's most consistent offensive performer this season, hitting .289 (127-for-440) with a team-best 17 home runs, 27 doubles, 81 RBI and 68 runs scored in 130 games. He ranks among the league-leaders in numerous categories including walks (1st, 88), RBI (2nd), on-base percentage (2nd, .409), batting average (4th) and slugging percentage (5th, .470).

The All-Star nod was Black's fourth in three seasons, having previously made the South Atlantic League postseason All-Star Team while with Single-A Kannapolis in 2011, the Carolina League All-Star Team while with Single-A Winston-Salem in 2012 and the Southern League mid-season All-Star team this season with the Barons. Semien was also a Southern League mid-season All-Star this season, his first career All-Star selection.
