
Stars Halt Generals Winning Streak At Five Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - The Generals (33-34) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night in Huntsville, falling 5-3 to the Stars (28-40). Huntsville stopped a five-game skid themselves and they trimmed the series edge to 2-1 with two games remaining in the series and season. The Generals lead the season series over the Stars, 9-7. Jackson finished the month of August with a 16-15 record.
Huntsville starter Taylor Jungmann got off to hot start on the mound retiring the first 11 Generals on Saturday. Chris Taylor (1x3, BB, SB) broke up his no hitter in the fourth inning with a two out single.
The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead after back-to-back RBI doubles from Mike Walker and Hector Gomez. They added another run in the fifth and led 3-0.
In the sixth, Ramon Morla (2x4, 2B, 2 RBI) continued his hot series with a two out, two run double to left, scoring Jack Marder (1x3, R) and Gabriel Noriega (1x4, R). Marder extended his hitting streak to five with a hit in the sixth. Jackson just trailed 3-2 after the top of the frame.
In the bottom of the sixth, Huntsville got a two-run home run from Micah Owings that pushed the Generals deficit back to three, at 5-2. Jackson added one run in the ninth on an RBI double from birthday boy John Hicks (1x4, 2B, RBI) to make the final score 5-3. Hicks turned 24 on Saturday.
Jackson starter Anthony Fernandez (9-8) suffered the loss and dropped to 2-3 during the month of August. Fernandez allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings, walking one and striking out two. Stephen Kohscheen worked a scoreless seventh and Kevin McCoy made his Double-A debut with a scoreless eighth frame. Taylor Junmann (10-9) earned the win on the mound for Huntsville.
The Generals and Stars play game four of the series at Joe Davis Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 4:03 p.m. RHP Trevor Miller (3-1, 4.01) starts for Jackson against RHP Ariel Pena (7-9, 3.87) for Huntsville. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and online at jacksongeneralsbaseball.com
