Sellout Crowd on Hand as Indians Fall to Canadians

July 9, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA - With a sold-out crowd of 6,876 fans on their feet and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Braxton Lane came to the plate with a chance to cap off a dramatic comeback. The leftfielder nearly did, lifting a high fly ball to centerfield that was held up by a stiff wind and caught by Vancouver outfielder Jonathan Jones, as Spokane's furious rally fell just short in a 9-7 loss during Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night.

The Indians trailed 9-5 heading into the ninth, but pushed two runs across on RBI singles from Jorge Alfaro and Hanser Alberto. After Canadians pitcher Drew Permision allowed four hits and a walk in the inning, submariner Philip Brua picked up the save, coaxing Lane's fly ball out. Vancouver's Travis Garrett (2-1) captured the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

Spokane's offense was once again led by first baseman Brett Nicholas, who finished 3-4 with two RBI's, including a monster home run to dead centerfield. Catcher Jorge Alfaro delivered three more hits to raise his average to .345.

The game was followed by a Park University Post-Game Movie.
