Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS- Frisco took game three against Northwest Arkansas winning 6-1 Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. It was the RoughRiders sixth victory in a row and second straight series sweep after winning three in a row against Tulsa.

Northwest Arkansas jumped out to an early lead after scoring in the first inning. Facing Frisco starter Cody Buckel (4-5), Yem Prades led off by singling up the middle. He was moved into scoring position on a ground out before scoring on a single by Brian Fletcher. Paulo Orlando then singled putting two runners in scoring position before Manny Pina hit into a double play to end the half.

The 'Riders didn't let the Naturals hold the lead for long and tied the game in the second inning. Third baseman Tommy Mendonca and left fielder Jared Hoying hit back-to-back singles before a sac bunt by Ryan Strausborger moved the two into scoring position. A sac fly by catcher Zach Zaneski brought in Mendonca to tie the game at 1.

Three more runs were tacked on to Frisco's lead in the fifth inning. The Naturals' defense put out two Frisco batters before starter Mike Montgomery (2-4) issued walks to Jurickson Profar and Chris McGuiness prompting a coaching visit to the mound. Jared Prince then stepped into the box and worked the count to 3-1 before hitting a home run to give Frisco a 4-1 lead. Montgomery came back to strike out Mendonca to end the inning.

The final two runs of the night came in the seventh inning. Northwest Arkansas reliever John Keck induced a ground out before allowing an infield single to Leury Garcia before walking Profar. McGuiness hit a grounder to shortstop Alex McClure who got Profar out at second but an errant throw allowed McGuiness to reach first safely. The play allowed Garcia to score to make it 5-1. A single by Prince then plated McGuiness.

Frisco relievers Roman Mendez and Ross Wolf combined to throw three scoreless innings to seal the win for the RoughRiders.

Cody Buckel picks up his fourth win in Double-A pitching for six innings allowing five hits and one run while walking none and striking out eight. Mike Montgomery is tagged with his fourth loss of the season pitching for five innings allowing five hits and four runs while walking five and striking out three.
