November 15, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 15, 2011) - The host Quad City Mallards, who scored three times in 48 seconds late in the second period, got a pair of goals from Jared Brown and a goal and an assist from both Justin Chwedoruk and Sean Flanagan on the way to a 5-3 come-from-behind-win over the Bloomington Blaze Tuesday night.
The Mallards' outburst started when, with Quad City on the power play, Brown scored his second of the night from the left wing circle to cut what had been a 3-1 Bloomington lead to a single goal at 17:46 of the second. The Mallards tied the game just 18 seconds later when Chwedoruk converted a give-and-go with Flanagan. Half a minute after the equalizer, Flanagan's drive from the right wing circle gave Quad City a 4-3 lead.
The Mallards were shorthanded when Brandon Marino finished off the Blaze by scoring on a 2-on-1 rush at 13:18 of the third period.
The Mallards found themselves in need of a comeback after Bloomington scored three straight goals of its own in the first and second periods. The evening started brightly for the Mallards when Brown opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game, but at 10:37 of the first, Brodie Sheahan pounced on a rebound to even the score. With Just less than two minutes left in the opening period, Bloomington's Mark Znutas jammed in a tie breaking power play goal.
John Booras's wrist shot stretched the Bloomington advantage to 3-1 at 13:14 of the second period, but, in the end, would serve only to set the stage for the Mallards' game changing onslaught later in the period.
The Mallards and Blaze meet again Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards "quacker" noise makers.
