Bloomington Blaze News Release

The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, gave up a two-goal lead late in the second period by surrendering three goals within a minute and lost 5-3 on the road to the Quad City Mallards on Tuesday night.

The Mallards dented the scoreboard first when Jared Brown raced down ice on a feed from goalie Brad Fogal and beat Blaze netminder Marco Emond high just 5:08 into the game. The Blaze would answer twice to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, as Brodie Sheahan scored his fourth goal on a flurry in front of the net at 10:37, and Mark Znutas deflected a Sheahan shot on the power play with less than two minutes remaining.

The Blaze extended the lead to 3-1 with just over six minutes left in the second period on the second goal of the season by Jon Booras, who took a feed from behind the net by Sheahan. The Mallards answered with three goals within 48 seconds in the final 2:14 of the period, a power play goal by Jared Brown followed by tallies by Justin Chwedoruk and Sean Flanagan, to give the Mallards a 4-3 lead at the second intermission.

The Mallards pushed the advantage to 5-3 with 6:42 left in the third on a Brandon Marino unassisted short-handed goal.

The Blaze outshot the Mallards 35-29. The Blaze fall to 1-5-2 while the Mallards improve to 4-5-0.

The Blaze travel to Dayton on Thursday and back to Quad City before returning home on Saturday to face the Dayton Gems. Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman (Rocky Blue on "Shake It Up") will meet fans and sign autographs (one per person) on the U.s. Cellular Coliseum concourse from 6 till 9 p.m. Tickets and more information are available from the Blaze office at 309-434-2980.
