Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- A stingy defense and some decent goaltending snapped the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (5-5-0) two-game win streak. The Allen Americans (6-2-2) goaltender Marco Cousineau made 41 saves in a 4-2 loss Tuesday night at the State Farm Arena.
Jason Beeman and Jason Dixon had the lone goals for the Bees while goalie Wylie Rogers made 40 saves.
Allen opened the scoring in the first period while on the power play. Winger Mike Kompon took the feed from Brian McMillin and fired a one-timer that got by Rogers.
Allen struck again early in the second when a shot by Steve Kaunisto took a funny bounce that lobbed over and past Rodgers who never saw the puck bouncing above his head.
The Bees found some life 8:43 into the second when Jason Beeman backhanded a rebound in front of a net-mouth scramble. The goal was Beeman's first of the season. Jake Hauswirth and Aaron Boogaard picked up the helpers for the Bees.
The Bees tied it at 15:40 in the second while on the powerplay when Jason Dixon carried a deflected pass in front of the net and slipped it past Cousineau. Zac Pearson and Aaron Lee earned the assists.
Allen came back and scored three unanswered goals, including an empty-netter to ice the game for the Bees and snapping their two-game win streak.
The Americans will be back at the Hive tomorrow night for a rematch with the Bees. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
