Cleveland Monsters News Release

One night after giving up four second-period goals in a loss to Milwaukee, it was again the middle frame that proved to make the difference for the Monsters on Saturday. Despite leading for over a period's worth of time, the Lake Erie Monsters (16-18-1-1) were unable to hold their lead in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Wolves (18-12-1-3) at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Evan Brophey scored the only goal for the Monsters, just 43 seconds into the game, before Lake Erie gave up three straight to the Wolves in the second period.

A lively bounce off the endboards from a missed Patrick Rissmiller shot in the game's first minute placed the puck on the stick of Brophey, who chipped the puck by Wolves goalie Matt Climie to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. Rissmiller and Tyson Barrie assisted on the Monsters only goal of the night. The Monsters outshot the Wolves 11-2 in the first 20 minutes.

Lake Erie held the lead until the 6:42 mark of the second period when Bill Sweatt fired a high shot from the right circle to tie the game. Steve Reinprecht added a power play goal on a rebound at 9:26 of the second period - the eventual game-winner for Chicago - before Darren Haydar extended the Wolves lead to 3-1 at 16:55 of the second period.

The third period yielded no scoring, with the Monsters unable to come back; they have now lost three straight. Trevor Cann stopped 18 of 21 shots in the loss, as he falls to 8-13-0. Climie stopped 19 of 20 shots for Chicago; he is 10-5-0.

The Monsters continue their five-game road swing on Thursday night at 8:00 PM in Peoria against the Rivermen.
