SAN ANTONIO (January 8, 2012) - Forwards Evan Barlow and Greg Rallo each tallied three points in the San Antonio Rampage's 4-3 loss to the Houston Aeros at the AT&T Center on Sunday afternoon.
Barlow scored the game's first goal 7:40 into the opening frame when he took a pass from Rallo, skated around a Houston defender, and made a beeline to the front of the Aeros net. Barlow then moved to the puck to his backhand and tucked it into the net behind Houston goaltender Matt Hackett to give San Antonio a 1-0 edge.
The Aeros tied the game at 1-1 with a tally from left wing Joel Broda nearly five minutes later. He carried the puck into the slot and fired a wrist shot by Rampage backstop Dov Grumet-Morris for his sixth goal of the year. Center David McIntyre registered the only assist on Broda's score.
Center Scott Timmins quickly regained the lead for the Rampage at the 13:38 mark of the first period. He was able to get his stick on a feed from Rallo and the puck deflected into the net off of Hackett for Timmins' sixth score of the year. Barlow picked up an assist with the secondary helper on the play.
A power-play goal from left wing Kris Foucault 3:35 into the middle frame knotted the game at 2-2. While he was stationed at the right circle, Foucault one-timed a pass from defenseman Nate Prosser inside the right post for his seventh marker of the year. Defenseman Chay Genoway also notched an assist on the Foucault score.
Barlow registered his second goal of the game and third point of the day with a wrister from the right side of the Houston net just over four minutes later. Barlow's shot beat Hackett along the ice and handed San Antonio a 3-2 edge. Defenseman Nolan Yonkman totaled his fifth point of the 2011-12 campaign with the primary assist while Rallo received the secondary assist, his third helper of the night.
The Aeros tied the game for third time in the contest when former Rampage right wing Jon DiSalvatore tallied a power-play goal at 10:33 of the second period. He cashed in on the rebound of a shot from center Chad Rau to make the count 3-3. Center Jeff Taffe notched his 17th assist of the season on Houston's second power-play marker of the day.
Broda gave Houston their first lead of the afternoon by finishing off a quick Aeros passing play at 15:59 of the second. Right wing Justin Fontaine started the play with a feed to McIntyre as he crossed the San Antonio blue line. McIntyre fired a pass to Broda, who was standing outside the crease when he took the puck and deposited it into the back of the net past Grumet-Morris. Broda's seventh goal of the year put Houston ahead at 4-3 and proved to be the game winner.
Hackett turned aside 33 of 36 Rampage shots for his 13th win of the season while Grumet-Morris made 20 saves on 24 Houston attempts in the San Antonio loss.
The Rampage (17-17-2-0) are back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Abbotsford Heat for a 7 p.m. (CST) contest at the AT&T Center.
