Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Missouri Mavericks' Team Captain Sebastien Thinel tallied his 900th career on Wednesday night as the Mavericks took a 5-2 victory over the Quad City Mallards on the road. The 2 points gained from this regulation victory were more than enough to secure a playoff spot for the Mavs and guarantee another week atop the Central Hockey League standings.

Sebastien Thinel is only the third player in Central Hockey League history to eclipse the 900 point mark. Thinel joins Hall of Famers Joe Burton (985) and Travis Clayton (982) in the 900-point club.

Andrew Courtney got the Mavs on the board in the first period off a perfect set up pass from Eric Castonguay. Sebastien Thinel was credited with the second assist for his 900th career point.

The Mavericks led the game 1-0 heading into the second period when a rapid succession of goals flip-flopped the game momentum as 3 points were scored in exactly 1 minute. First Trevor Kell tallied a goal at 6:12 of the second period, and Thomas Frazee answered back only 17 seconds later to bring the Mallards back into the game 2-1. Then Mike Ramsay pulled the Mavs away with another goal at 7:12, exactly 1 minute from Kell's goal. Quad City pulled to within 1 goal by the end of the second period as Chris Greene tallied another point for the Mallards.

Shane Owen held off the Mallards for the rest of the game, making 11 saves in the third period. Trevor Kell and Andrew Courtney each notched power play goals in the final frame to expand the Mavericks lead to 5-2 and take the win.

The Mavericks play their next home game on Friday, March 7th at the Independence Events Center against the Allen Americans at 7:05pm. There will be a specialty jersey auction benefitting Folds of Honor directly following the game on March 7th in sections 101 and 102.
