Oilers Military Appreciation Night Set for Saturday
March 6, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers return to home ice this Friday, March 7 at the BOK Center to begin a two-game weekend home stand against the Rapid City Rush.
Friday's game begins at 7:35 p.m. and the first 500 fans will receive a free blanket courtesy of Warren Clinic Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.
On Saturday evening, the Oilers pay tribute to America's armed forces on Budweiser Military Night presented by Oklahoma Army National Guard. The Oilers will wear special patriotic-themed jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation which provides scholarships and financial assistance to families of fallen and disabled soldiers.
Over the last several weeks, the Oilers have embarked on a "Seats for Soldiers" campaign in an effort to provide free tickets to Saturday night's game for veterans, active duty troops, and military families. Thanks to the generosity of loyal fans and donations from corporate partners, the Oilers will be able to provide 750 seats for soldiers as a thank you for their service and sacrifice.
Throughout the game, the Oilers will take time to recognize all of the men and women who have put their lives on the line in defense of freedom. Several military charities such as Soldiers Wish, Blue Star Mothers, and the Patriot Guard Riders, will be in attendance to raise awareness for the needs of soldiers on the front lines and veterans here at home.
The Oilers have 11 games remaining in the regular season and enter the weekend in sixth place in the CHL standings. Tulsa has won ten of its last 11 games and four of its last five contests at the BOK Center. The Oilers finished February with a 9-1-0 record and swept the league's monthly individual awards. Adam Pleskach earned Rookie of the Month honors and Shane Madolora was named the Goalie of the Month, while the CHL Player of the Month award was given to Ben Gordon.
Tulsa and Rapid City will conclude their five-game season series this weekend and the Oilers have come out on top in each of the three previous meetings. All of the victories occurred in Rapid City where the Oilers were led by Ben Gordon (5 goals, 1 assist) and goaltender Shane Madolora who recorded a 1.67 goals against average and a .955 save percentage in three wins over the Rush.
Tickets for both games this weekend are available by calling 918-632-7825 or by logging on to www.tulsaoilers.com.
