
Sebastian Giovinco Claims Second Straight MLS Player of the Week Honour

Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco becomes the first player in club history to be voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). He also becomes the first player this season to be named MLS Player of the Week in consecutive weeks and just the third player since the start of the 2014 MLS campaign (Clint Dempsey, Weeks five and six and Landon Donovan, Weeks 25 and 26).
Giovinco's two goals in the 34th and 83rd minute helped lead the Reds to a 2-1 victory over D.C. United this past Saturday. In addition to the victory, TFC snapped D.C. United's franchise-best home unbeaten streak at 20 games. Giovinco has registered eight goals and seven assists in all competitions (seven MLS goals, six MLS assists and one Amway Canadian Championship goal, one Amway Canadian Championship assist) for Toronto FC this season. Through 12 matches this season, he is presently tied for the franchise record for assists in a season (6), and is fourth (tied) for the franchise record with three game-winning goals.
Last week, Giovinco became the ninth player in Toronto FC history to win MLS Player of the Week honours joining: Jozy Altidore (Week 1 - 2015), Jermain Defoe (Week 2 - 2014), Robert Earnshaw (Week 2 - 2013), Danny Koevermans (Week 17 -2012 & Week 27 - 2011), Joao Plata (Week 8 - 2011), Dwayne De Rosario (Weeks 5 & 10 - 2010), Amado Guevara (Week 10 - 2009), and Chad Barrett (Week 17 - 2009), Sebastian Giovinco (Weeks 13 & 14 - 2015).
