
SeaWolves Fall 10-9 in Wild Extra Innings Game

The Erie SeaWolves nearly completed a comeback but fell 10-9 in 12 innings to the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday at UPMC Park.
Erie opened the scoring in the first. Parker Meadows picked up a two-run single off of Tanner Burns. Quincy Nieporte blasted a two-run homer to give the SeaWolves a 2-0 lead. It was his 19th long ball of the season.
Erie flexed its muscles again in the fourth. Gage Workman reached on a one-out walk to knockout Burns from the game. Daniel Cabrera, in his first game back for Erie since May 29, greeted Kyle Marman with a two-run jack to extend the SeaWolves' lead to 4-0.
Akron's lone run against Chance Kirby came in the sixth. Jhonkensy Noel lifted a solo homer to cut the deficit to 4-1. Kirby received the no-decision after hurling his fourth quality start. He tossed six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
The 'Ducks rallied in the seventh. Daniel Schneeman collected a one-out single against Brendan White. Angel Lopez singled and Marcos Gonzalez walked to load the bases. Jose Tena blooped a two-run single to make it a 6-3 game. Kyle Zurak entered the game in relief of White and uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Gonzalez. George Valera singled in Tena to make it a 6-5 game.
Akron tied the game 6-6 in the ninth as Tena and Brayan Rocchio roped back-to-back two-out doubles off of Yaya Chentouf.
The RubberDucks broke open the game in the 12th. Rocchio and Noel hit a pair of two-run homers off of Zac Houston to take a 10-6 lead.
Erie nearly rallied back in the bottom half of the frame. Dane Myers was the free runner on second and Luis Carpio advanced him to third with a single against Robert Broom. Workman launched a three-run bomb to right field to cut the deficit to 10-9. Andre Lipcius worked a walk and advanced to second on a groundout as the game-tying run, but the SeaWolves were unable to bring him around.
The SeaWolves had their fair share of opportunities. Overall, Erie went 3-for-21 with runners in scoring position and left 16 runners on base.
Broom (2-0) earned the win. He allowed three runs, two earned in four frames.
Houston (0-4) was tagged with the loss. He lasted a third of inning, allowing four runs, two earned runs, two hits, and one walk.
