Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves won 11-10 against the Akron RubberDucks in a 10-inning thriller to begin the second half at UPMC Park on Tuesday.
George Valera put Akron on the board in the first with a solo homer against Austin Bergner.
Micah Pries blasted a solo homer in the second to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.
Erie responded in the third inning. Wenceel Perez hustled into second with a one-out double against Akron starter Hunter Gaddis. Andre Lipcius then plated Perez with an RBI single to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
Akron tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth. Jhonkensy Noel led off the frame with a solo homer. Pries immediately followed with a double and Chris Roller advanced Pries to third with a flyout. Marcos Gonzalez drove in Pries with an RBI fielder's choice to put the RubberDucks ahead, 4-1.
Erie answered in the home half of the fourth. Chris Rabago lined a two-out double to right before Eric De La Rosa belted his first homer of the season to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Akron added to its lead in the sixth. Adam Wolf allowed a leadoff walk to Roller and issued a single to Gonzalez. Eric Rodriguez laid down a sac bunt and reached first on a throwing error by Wolf to load the bases. Jose Tena cleared the bases with a three-run double to give Akron a 7-3 lead.
The SeaWolves got a run back in the bottom of the sixth. Gage Workman reached on a one-out single against Eli Lingos. Rabago collected his second double and Workman moved to third. De La Rosa notched his third RBI of the day with a groundout to score Workman and make it a 7-4 ballgame.
Raynel Delgado began the seventh with a leadoff walk against Kyle Zurak. Delgado went to second on a wild pitch. Roller then singled and Delgado went to third. Roller came home to make it an 8-4 deficit after Gonzalez hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
Parker Meadows launched a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh off of Kyle Marman. It was his sixth homer of the season and second in the last two games.
Tena and Brayan Rocchio picked up back-to-back doubles off of Brendan White to give Akron a 9-5 lead in the eighth.
The SeaWolves mounted a five-run comeback in the home half of the eighth. Dillon Dingler opened the frame with a walk. Two batters later, Rabago received his third base hit of the evening to move Dingler to second. De La Rosa then cashed in on his fourth RBI of the night with a run-scoring single. He became the seventh SeaWolf and first since Lipcius on June 21 with a four-RBI night.
Jon Rosoff worked a six-pitch walk to bring Perez up to the plate and load the bases. The switch-hitter lifted a sac fly off of Cade Smith to bring home Rabago to make it a 9-7 game. Lipcius missed a home run by inches but coasted into second with a two-run double to tie the contest 9-9. Dane Myers pieced an RBI single to give Erie a 10-9 lead.
The RubberDucks evened the matchup 10-10 in the ninth after an inside-the-park home run from Roller against Yaya Chentouf.
Chentouf issued a free pass to Tena to begin the tenth before Rocchio reached on a bunt to load the bases. Chentouf buckled the down and struck out the side to keep the game tied.
Perez roped a doubled to left-center against Thomas Ponticelli on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the tenth to bring in Rosoff. It was Erie's sixth walk-off of the 2022 campaign and first since Quincy Nieporte's walk-off single in the 11th inning on June 22 against Bowie.
Chentouf (3-1) earned the win. He allowed a run on one hit in two innings of work, walking one and striking out four.
Ponticelli (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He did not record an out and gave up an unearned run on one hit.
