Connell Homers in 8-3 Loss

The Harrisburg Senators began the second half of the season with an 8-3 loss to Altoona Tuesday night at PNG Field. Altoona scored three runs in the first on two walks and a two-out three-run home run. They tallied five more in the second, sending ten batters to the plate to take an 8-0 lead. The Senators outhit Altoona 7-6 but couldn't get the big hit needed to get fully back in the game.

Luis Reyes started and last just 1.2 innings, taking the loss. He walked the leadoff batter then two outs later in the first inning he issued a four-pitch walk followed by a three-run home run. In the second inning, he faced eight batters, allowed four hits and a walk along with five runs. Danny Dopico came on in the second, allowed a run scoring single and that was it. He faced twelve total batters and retired ten of then. Francys Peguero retired all nine batters he faced including four strikeouts. Dopico and Peguero combined to going 6.1 innings, allowing one hit, one walk and eight strikeouts.

Justin Connell hit a two-run home run for the Sens in the sixth inning. Jackson Cluff had two hits, both singles. Jake Alu doubled in the game, his 20th double. Connell also scored twice.

The Senators started the season in Altoona taking two of three in early April. Tonight was the start of the second half playoff chase with all teams in the Eastern League starting at 0-0. The first half division champions were Somerset and Richmond.
