Seattle Storm News Release
SEATTLEÃÂ -ÃÂ The Seattle Storm announcedÃÂ theÃÂ scheduleÃÂ for the 2021 regular season presented byÃÂ SymetraÃÂ onÃÂ Tuesday,ÃÂ beginning itsÃÂ WNBA titleÃÂ defenseÃÂ with a Finals rematch againstÃÂ the Las Vegas AcesÃÂ at 7 p.m.ÃÂ onÃÂ Saturday, May 15, at Angel of the Winds Arena.ÃÂ ÃÂ
OpeningÃÂ NightÃÂ presented byÃÂ SwedishÃÂ will featureÃÂ a celebration of the franchise's fourth WNBA title includingÃÂ theÃÂ presentation of the Baron championship rings.ÃÂ
The Storm's 32-game regular season schedule featuresÃÂ 16ÃÂ home games, which will all beÃÂ played at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington as renovations to Climate Pledge ArenaÃÂ continue throughÃÂ theÃÂ fall.ÃÂ Seattle played seven games in Everett during the 2019 season, posting a 6-1 record in those contests.ÃÂ
Broadcast information for the games will be available at a later date.
Among the marquee matchups on the slate for the Storm:
Seattle opens the season with back-to-back games against 2020 WNBA MVPÃÂ A'ja Wilson, UW gradÃÂ Kelsey Plum, and the rest of the Las Vegas Aces on May 15ÃÂ (12 p.m.)ÃÂ and 17ÃÂ (8 p.m.)ÃÂ in the Aces lone regular season trip to Seattle. The games are a rematch of the 2020 WNBA Finals won by the Storm in a historic series sweep, culminating in a 33-point, Game 3 victory-the largest margin of victory ever in a WNBA Finals game.
The Storm open the season with seven of its first nine games at home. After hosting the Aces and a quick trip to Minnesota and Dallas, Seattle opens a five-gameÃÂ homestandÃÂ beginning with aÃÂ showdownÃÂ againstÃÂ DeWannaÃÂ BonnerÃÂ and the Connecticut SunÃÂ onÃÂ Tuesday,ÃÂ May 25 at 7 p.m.ÃÂ
That homestandÃÂ featuresÃÂ aÃÂ contestÃÂ between the only two current WNBA franchises with fourÃÂ championships,ÃÂ as the Storm host Minnesota on Friday, May 28 at 7 p.m. The lone meeting between the two in Seattle features two teams which have combined to win seven of the last 11 WNBAÃÂ titles.ÃÂ ÃÂ
Future Hall ofÃÂ FamerÃÂ Candace ParkerÃÂ and theÃÂ Chicago SkyÃÂ play a pair of games in Seattle in August inÃÂ the team'sÃÂ only trip to the Northwest. The Sky, whose lineup also includesÃÂ local product andÃÂ Gonzaga gradÃÂ CourtneyÃÂ VanderslootÃÂ (Kent, WA), take on the StormÃÂ on Friday,ÃÂ Aug. 27ÃÂ (7 p.m.)ÃÂ andÃÂ Sunday,ÃÂ AugÃÂ 29ÃÂ (4 p.m.).
The 2019ÃÂ WNBA ChampsÃÂ led by two-time MVPÃÂ Elena Delle DonneÃÂ playÃÂ a pair ofÃÂ TuesdayÃÂ contestsÃÂ in Seattle, battling the Storm on Tuesday, June 22,ÃÂ and againÃÂ on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Both games tip at 7 p.m.ÃÂ
DianaÃÂ Taurasi, BrittneyÃÂ GrinerÃÂ and the Phoenix Mercury make two trips to Seattle. The first is the final game before the OlympicÃÂ break as the Storm hosts Phoenix on Sunday, July 11 atÃÂ 3ÃÂ p.m. Seattle then wrapsÃÂ up the regular season against the Mercury, celebrating Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
SeattleÃÂ returnsÃÂ a key trio fromÃÂ its 2020 championship team:ÃÂ Sue Bird, whoÃÂ returns for herÃÂ 20thÃÂ season with the Storm;ÃÂ 2020ÃÂ Finals MVPÃÂ Breanna Stewart;ÃÂ andÃÂ two-time All-Star guardÃÂ JewellÃÂ Loyd.ÃÂ The StormÃÂ addedÃÂ three forwards this offseason via free agency and trades:ÃÂ Katie Lou Samuelson,ÃÂ Mikiah Herbert Harrigan,ÃÂ andÃÂ Candice Dupree.ÃÂ Dupree, who is entering her 16th season in the WNBA, ranks third among active players in career points (6,728) and ranks second behind Bird in games played (468).ÃÂ Head CoachÃÂ Dan Hughes-the WNBA's all-time leader in games coached-returns to the sideline after missing the 2020 seasonÃÂ due to health concerns.
TheÃÂ StormÃÂ continue toÃÂ workÃÂ closely with theÃÂ WNBA,ÃÂ WashingtonÃÂ stateÃÂ and theÃÂ SnohomishÃÂ Health DistrictÃÂ to determineÃÂ the guidelines for safely allowing fans at Angel of the Winds Arena this season.ÃÂ Further details regarding fan attendanceÃÂ will be availableÃÂ soon.
