FRISCO, Texas - Fredy Montero and Steve Zakuani scored and Jeff Cunningham put in two penalty kicks as the Seattle Sounders FC and FC Dallas battled to a 2-2 draw in front of an ESPN2 television audience on Thursday night at Pizza Hut Park.
Seattle Sounders FC (2-1-2, 8 points) remains unbeaten on the road while FC Dallas (0-1-3, 3 points) continues to look for its first win of the season.
Dallas struck first on a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Kasey Keller collided with Jeff Cunningham as he slid to grab the ball. Cunningham put the penalty kick in the lower left corner of the net.
Steve Zakuani equalized shortly before halftime. Osvaldo Alonso split the defense with a ball up the left flank to Zakuani who sent a right-footed shot inside the far post for his second goal and Alonso's second assist of the season.
Fredy Montero put Seattle ahead in the 55th minute with a free kick from 40 yards. Montero whipped the ball around the FC Dallas wall and into the upper left corner for his second goal of the season.
In the 94th minute, John Yeisley ran into two Sounders FC defenders in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Cunningham stepped up and knocked the ball to the left post for his second goal of the game and third goal of the season.
Keller left the game at halftime after experiencing blurred vision from the collision with Cunningham. Terry Boss replaced him, making his MLS debut in net for the final 45 minutes.
Freddie Ljungberg entered the game as a 78th minute substitute for Montero.
Seattle has earned points in seven of its last eight regular season games dating back to August 15, winning four and drawing three.
Rookie David Estrada made his first MLS start on Thursday night. Seattle selected Estrada with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Estrada appeared in just one game prior to the start, logging seven minutes against the New York Red Bulls on April 3rd.
Seattle visits Toronto FC at BMO Field on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. Sounders FC returns home to play two in a row on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field beginning May 1 at 7:30 p.m. PT against the Columbus Crew.
