The Reign (3-3-2, 11 points) are coming off of a 1-0 win against the Dash, moving their all-time record against Houston to a perfect 6-0-0. Seattle controlled possession for the majority of the match, and led Houston in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks. It was the second-straight match the Reign outshot their opponents.
The game-winning goal came in the 66th minute from Havana Solaun. After an extended passing sequence from the Reign, Beverly Yanez collected the ball at the top of the 18 with her back to goal. Yanez then laid the ball off to a wide-open Solaun, who fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal, just past a diving Lydia Williams.
Solaun made her first NWSL start in the match, and the goal was the first of her professional career. She was named player of the match for her efforts. This was the first NWSL game this season Solaun went the full 90 minutes for the Reign.
Sunday's win snapped a four-game winless streak for Seattle, and was the second-straight shutout for the Reign FC defense. The match marked the return of Hope Solo from international play, and she recorded 4 saves on the night.
Solo played two matches against Japan with the U.S. Women's National Team. The first match was a 3-3 tie, while the second game was a rain-shortened 2-0 win for the United States.
Despite abandoning the second match due to inclement weather, Solo was still credited with the shutout. It was the 99th shutout of her career. Should Solo reach 100 shutouts, she would be the first ever U.S. Women's National Team keeper to reach that mark.
