Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (JANUARY 17, 2013) - Former Frisco RoughRiders broadcaster Aaron Goldsmith has been hired by the Seattle Mariners to serve as the team's new radio play-by-play broadcaster, the big league club announced earlier today. He will work alongside the Mariners' Rick Rizzs in the radio booth this upcoming season and is set to become the RoughRiders' first-ever former broadcaster to reach Major League Baseball.
Goldsmith, 29, was the "Voice of the RoughRiders" during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, providing radio and television play-by-play for the team in addition to coordinating Frisco's media relations department. The St. Louis native spent last year in a similar capacity for the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the Seattle Mariners' broadcast team," said Goldsmith to MLB.com's Greg Johns. "The idea of contributing to an organization with such a rich tradition on the radio is a tremendous honor and a standard I look forward to upholding. I'm eager to start working alongside Rick Rizzs and contributing to the Mariners both on and off the air."
Prior to joining the RoughRiders, Goldsmith was a broadcaster and studio host for the Portland Sea Dogs, Boston's Double-A affiliate. He also called games for Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League in 2008 and for the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League in 2007. Goldsmith graduated from Principia College in Elsah, Ill. with a history degree and then attended the Broadcast Center in St. Louis, where he earned a certificate in Radio Broadcasting and Production.
The regular season begins for the RoughRiders on Thursday, April 4 when Frisco visits the Arkansas Travelers. The 'Riders begin their home schedule on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. when the Travelers come to Dr Pepper Ballpark.
