Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - Returning to Royal Athletic Park for their longest homestand of the year, the Victoria Seals kicked off a four game series against the Tucson Toros on Tuesday night. With Vince Davis (0-0) making his first start of the season on the mound for the Toros, the Seals sent Roberto Sotolongo (1-1) to the mound in return.

In a contest dominated by excellent pitching early on, the two teams combined for just two hits and six base runners through the first five innings. Jamar Hill would change all of that in the bottom of the sixth, however, launching his sixth home run over the left field fence for a 1-0 Victoria advantage.

Tucson would answer right back in the top of the seventh, when Lino Garcia was hit by a pitch and stole second base, during which Sotolongo was injured and left the game in place of Ethan Katz. The Toros then put together four hits in five batters, getting singles from Dustin Yount, Andre Marshall, Jim Rushford, and Mayobanex Santana to jump out to a 4-1 lead through seven innings.

Leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, the Seals were left with just three outs in the ninth to mount another dramatic comeback. With a lead-off double from Brett Flowers and a walk to Chris Van Rossum, Bret LeVier brought the house down with a game-tying three-run shot to Pembroke street in left field.

Still with no outs in the frame, Carlos Duncan dropped the next pitch into left for a single, and advanced to scoring position with a walk to Trevor Davidson. A ground ball from Jamar Hill that looked like an inning-ender was thrown away by second basemen Skip Adams, allowing Duncan to score the game winning run on his 32nd birthday. With the win, the Seals make it two walk-off victories in a row at Royal Athletic Park, a 5-4 final over the Toros.

Graham Campbell takes the win and improves to 2-1 after closing out the ninth inning, while Tucson closer Jordan Muir takes the loss. Bret LeVier played hero for the Seals, finishing 1-for-4 with three RBI's, while Mayobanex Santana went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's in a losing effort. Following the game, 3,689 fans took in a spectacular fireworks display on the eve of Canada Day celebrations in the capital region.
