Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - After another dramatic walk-off victory last night, the Victoria Seals squared off against the Tucson Toros in game two on Canada Day. With the Toros sending former Seattle Mariners draft pick Cibney Bello (1-0) to the mound, the Seals responded with his former High Desert (A+) teammate Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2-2) in round two.

For the second contest in a row, the game would be a pitcher's duel early on, but this time around Tucson would open the scoring in the second frame. A lead-off double from Andre Marshall put the visitors up 1-0 on an RBI ground out from third basemen Mayobanex Santana.

Despite putting runners on base in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings, the Seals would not draw even until the bottom of the seventh frame. Another lead-off base runner, a bunt single from Chris Van Rossum, scored on a two-out base hit from Wilver Perez to knot the game a 1-1 through seven innings.

A scoreless eighth would set up another dramatic finish at Royal Athletic Park, leaving 3,521 faithful on the edge of their seats. With Javier Garcia on in relief for Victoria, a 10-pitch battle against Lino Garcia, the first batter in the inning, would give the Toros a one-run advantage once again with Garcia's fourth home run of the season sailing over the left field fence.

Unable to mount another ninth-inning rally, the Seals drop game two by a 2-1 final, as Tucson snaps a five-game losing skid. Austin Bibens-Dirkx was spectacular in his no decision, pitching 8 innings and allowing just 4 hits and one run, while reliever Jason Hanna takes the win and Javier Garcia falls to 1-2 with the loss. Along with the game-winning home run, Lino Garcia finished 2-for-4 while Wilver Perez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the losing effort.
