Victoria Seals News Release
Victoria, BC - Hoping to avenge a 10-7 eleven-inning loss to the Edmonton Capitals on Friday night, the Victoria Seals took to the field just 13 hours later for game number two. Looking to veteran Travis Wade (0-4) on the mound, the Seals squared up against Trevor Caughey (0-1) of the Capitals.
With a scoreless first inning in the books, the Seals would open the scoring with a two-run home run over the left field fence from Carlos Duncan in the bottom of the second. After a lead-off walk to Wilver Perez in the top of the third, the Seals made it a 3-0 ball game with an RBI single from Jamar Hill.
Responding in the top of the fourth frame, a solo home run from Darryl Brinkley brought Edmonton within two through four innings. Then, with two outs in the fifth, the Capitals strung together an error and four consecutive hits, including a double from Kevin House, en route to a 5-3 advantage.
The Seals would counter with a pair of their own in the bottom half of the inning, however, to tie the game 5-5. A solo shot from Sergio Pedroza, followed two batters later by a double from Josh Arhart and RBI base hit from Brian Rios made things all even headed to the sixth inning.
With Paige Dumont stepping to the hill in relief for the Capitals, Victoria used a lead-off single from Duncan, a double from Bret LeVier, a hit-by-pitch from Trevor Davidson and a bases-clearing triple from Perez to shift momentum back in their favour and grab an 8-5 lead.
After Edmonton received an RBI double from Max Poulin to narrow the Seals' lead in the seventh, LeVier picked up his second hit of the game to score Rios and restore Victoria's three-run advantage. With Chris Bodishbaugh back to the mound looking for the save in the ninth, the right hander picked up back-to-back strikeouts and an outfield assist to hand the Seals their 10th win on the season, a 9-6 final score.
Travis Wade picks up his first win of the year, while Paige Dumont falls to 3-1 as Victoria snaps a three-game home losing skid. Wilver Perez spearheaded the Seals' offense, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI's while Max Poulin was 2-for-3 with three RBI's in a losing effort for the Capitals.
